TIME PIECE IN GRAZ, AUSTRIA
This installation at Kunsthaus Graz in Graz, Austria was implemented in 2003. Promoted by local authorities and designed by Max Neuhaus, it is a permanent installation.
In the audio example you can hear the sounds created by Time Piece in Graz.
The electroacoustic installation, which was part of the revitalization of the historic city center, is placed on the roof of the Kunsthaus Graz museum. Five minutes before each hour, a synthesized sound is being emitted via a speaker array, building up into a crescendo and abruptly stopping at the full hour. It is conceived in that way by the sound artist, so it builds into the traffic noise at the site and makes passers-by realize something was happening only the moment it is gone. It operates between 8:50AM and 9:50PM .
