The acoustic design was a key consideration, with Arup Acoustics collaborating with the architects and the client to create a space that could support a range of events. The project was initiated by the Art Gallery of NSW, Arup Acoustics, architects SANAA, and Infrastructure NSW, and was implemented in 2022.
The Sydney Modern Project involved the renovation and expansion of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Tank is a new underground space built as part of the project. It is a large, cylindrical performance space designed to accommodate a wide range of events, including music, theater, and dance performances. The acoustic design of the space was a key consideration in the project.
The acoustic design of The Tank was a collaborative effort between Arup Acoustics, the project architects, and the client. The goal was to create a space that could support a range of events and provide an immersive audio experience for the audience. The design incorporated a range of acoustic treatments, including acoustic curtains, acoustic panels, and acoustic baffles, to allow the space to be tuned to the needs of different performances .
