Avenida de la Constitución in Granada, Spain, is one of the city’s main urban arteries. It was comprehensively redeveloped in 2006 through a project designed by Alejandro Muñoz Miranda, transforming a traffic-dominated avenue into a more pedestrian-oriented public space. The project introduced an underground car park, reduced road capacity, and created a broad central promenade with gardens, trees, fountains and seating. Although road traffic noise remains high, the design incorporates several soundscape interventions to improve perceived acoustic quality. A low dividing wall helps screen traffic noise, while integrated waterfalls and fountains introduce water sounds that partially mask unwanted traffic. Trees, shrubs and flower beds further support natural sounds by attracting birds. The redevelopment has increased pedestrian use and created an important social space, particularly for older residents. Life-size bronze sculptures of prominent figures associated with Granada also add a distinctive cultural and historical identity to the boulevard.
